Summation
I find Holmes' summations to be one of the best parts of the stories because you learn a lot about his deduction skills and how his mind works. They also help clarify some parts that were harder to understand (well at least for me). But I also liked the comical banter between Watson and Holmes. They use fairly modern language, so I get their humor. For example, one of my favorite lines from The Red-Headed League is, "You did, Doctor, but none the less you must come round to my view, for otherwise I shall keep on piling fact upon fact until your reason breaks down under them and acknowledges me to be right." I just feel like he's subtly hinting at how annoying he can be. Anyways, I was wonder what everyone else's favorite part of the stories are.

So far my favorite part is in A Scandal in Bohemia where Holmes came up with a plan that included, pretending he was dying, getting people on the street to stage a fight, a false fire alarm, ect. It was so complicated, yet it work to perfection. (Except for the part that Irene followed him to Baker Street.)
ReplyDeleteI loved that part too, particularly because he was outsmarted by a woman :D
ReplyDeleteI love how Irene is depicted in the novel :) Especially the fact that, if Holmes had more human feelings/instincts instead of logic, he would probably be in love with Irene. It's so, romantic, in a very spy/logic sort of way. He pretty much adores her. I hope we see a lot more of her character come into play because she is such a great foil to Holmes' character.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that for every person that comes in he does his cool observing tricks. It reminds me of psych :) wonder if the writer of psych is a holmes fan.
